Lucas’s notes

From "The Wow! Signal" (2026). It may be a personal take, but many will relate: the pain of losing someone we love plunges us (among other things) into a songwriting catharsis, where we can turn sadness into sounds that bring relief and, above all, create beauty in a moment of pain that seems never-ending (where there’s pain, there will be songs). Matt comes in on a piano as intimate as it is necessary to express the feeling, and the band gradually joins in until it erupts for the first time in the second chorus. This may be a place for guitars, but I can’t help mentioning how Chris’s bass lines turned me into a fan of the band, and it’s worth saying here because they give the song a lovely identity. Ideal for practising Matt’s trademark tremolo picking and, forgive the depth of the reflection, connecting with the sensitive side of music. After all, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, and if we make music, it’s to stir something in others (and in ourselves).
